Our colleagues from Pluxbox participated in the 2018 edition of IBC and had a booth in the exhibition area of the event. Here, they showcased RadioManager, their flagship product for radio stations, and the latest developments that they are working on: the MARCONI project. Throughout the many discussions and one-to-one interactions that took place during the five days of the event, the initial project results were disseminated to the core target stakeholders and informal feedback was gathered.
The NGI forum is an annual event of the Next Generation Internet (NGI) community and attracted in the last edition more than 300 registered attendees and 26 speakers. One of the speakers was Alexandru Stan of IN2, who was involved in the parallel session “Better search for trustworthy content and objects discovery”, presenting MARCONI to the entire audience.
(Somewhat) breaking news! Our team has been notified that our application for ICT 2018 has been accepted. From the 26th till the 28th of June, the TVX conference for broadcasters took place in Seoul, Korea. ACM TVX (Interactive Experiences for Television and Online Video) is the leading international conference for research into online video, TV interaction and user experience. Researchers Sandy and Rik from VRT were able to present their submitted papers about MARCONI at the conference, and receive valuable feedback for the next steps of the project.
Radiodays Europe is the meeting point for the world of radio and audio, taking place from the 17th till the 19th of March in Vienna. During the event, Mike Matton from VRT was able to give a presentation on the main objectives and the open calls of MARCONI.
“Our role in the project is to support the indexing and search of social content, helping radio stations to get more out of their interactions on social media, better understand the issues that are discussed on their shows and respond faster to online comments.” Meet George Ioannidis, Director at IN2.
“The major point is getting the confidence of the users and being as transparent as possible.” Meet Erich Schweighofer, professor at Vienna University. With more than twenty years of experience of funded research in legal informatics, Erich undertakes measures to safeguard privacy within the MARCONI project.
“I started my career by developing a single-source publishing system together with Dennis Laupman, which is how the company Pluxbox was born.” Meet Cas Adriani, Technical Director at Pluxbox and technical lead of the MARCONI integrated platform.
“I typically use design thinking as a research approach to understand the design problem in its complexity. Prototypes and mock-ups are designed and developed through ideation, iteration and critiquing solutions with end-users. I believe it is valuable to also design the research experience: end-users are more engaged in the process when they can connect to the problem.” As User Researcher at VRT Innovation, Sandy Claes is an expert in design and co-creation of viable solutions to the real user problems.
“We’re going full force on interactivity. This means numerous integrations with third party platforms but also with systems currently used by the various radio stations. This also means tools and optimisations for the editorial team, such as conversational management with chatbots and smart analysis for filtering and linking content from various sources.” As Lead Developer at VRT Innovation, Rik Bauwens is experienced in translating ideas into workable prototypes.
