MARCONI at NeurIPS 2018

MARCONI at NeurIPS 2018

JOANNEUM RESEARCH co-organized the workshop titled "Compact Deep Neural Network Representation with Industrial Applications (CDNNRIA)" as part of the Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems. The workshop assembled more than 200 participants from academia and industry working on techniques and applications of efficient neural network-based learning. The workshop hosted invited talks with speakers from MIT, DeepMind, Intel, Qualcomm, NVIDIA and University of Amsterdam, oral and poster presentations and a panel discussion.

MARCONI was at the WorldDAB General Assembly 2018

The WorldDAB General Assembly 2018 brought together more than 200 experts to discuss the future of DAB+ digital radio. The MARCONI project was represented there thanks to Pluxbox who had a booth at this event. It was an opportunity to show MARCONI demos and give hand outs to members of WorldDAB and DAB enthusiasts.

This was MARCONI at ACM Multimedia 2018

ACM Multimedia is the most important conference for researchers and practitioners in the multimedia field. This year, the 26th edition of the conference took place in Seoul, Korea, from the 22nd of October till the 26th. MARCONI contributed to this year’s programme with a tutorial titled “Interactive Video Search: Where is the User in the Age of Deep Learning?”, co-authored by Werner Bailer from Joanneum Research.

MARCONI at IBC2018

MARCONI at IBC2018

Our colleagues from Pluxbox participated in the 2018 edition of IBC and had a booth in the exhibition area of the event. Here, they showcased RadioManager, their flagship product for radio stations, and the latest developments that they are working on: the MARCONI project. Throughout the many discussions and one-to-one interactions that took place during the five days of the event, the initial project results were disseminated to the core target stakeholders and informal feedback was gathered.

MARCONI at TVX 2018

From the 26th till the 28th of June, the TVX conference for broadcasters took place in Seoul, Korea. ACM TVX (Interactive Experiences for Television and Online Video) is the leading international conference for research into online video, TV interaction and user experience. Researchers Sandy and Rik from VRT were able to present their submitted papers about MARCONI at the conference, and receive valuable feedback for the next steps of the project.

Consortium meeting in Graz: new use cases!

On the 9th and 10th of January, the Joanneum Research hosted a meeting with the MARCONI consortium in Graz in order to review the work done so far and plan the upcoming actions. High on the agenda were discussions on use cases and requirements.

Already three different workshops with radio stations have been carried out, which have provided the consortium with an in-depth understanding of the workflows and challenges for radio-makers. Two additional workshops with listeners are taking place this month. During the meeting in Graz, the team discussed in detail the 16 concepts that they identified so far, while prioritising and grouping the different use-cases. This input was brought into a follow-up discussion that dealt with the MARCONI architecture.

The second day of the meeting started off with a review of the prototyping activities done so far (e.g. a “Notify me” trial that involved over 2300 users). Afterwards, further prototyping and piloting activities planned for the next period were discussed in detail. The communication and exploitation plan was reviewed and a storyboard for the first MARCONI video has already been created. Stay tuned for more updates!
